മാമ്മലശ്ശേരി മാര് മിഖായേല് പള്ളിയുടെ ഐതിഹ്യം
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയില് പിറവത്തിനും രാമമംഗലത്തിനും മദ്ധ്യേ ചരിത്രമുറങ്ങുന്ന മാമ്മലശ്ശേരി എന്ന അനുഗ്രഹീതമായ സ്ഥലത്ത് 1100 വര്ഷത്തോളം പഴക്കമുള്ള മാമ്മലശ്ശേരി മാര് മിഖായേല് പള്ളി പ്രൌഢഗംഭീരമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. 1159 ഓക്ടോബര് മാസം 12, (കന്നി മാസം,29)- നായിരുന്നു, ഈ പള്ളിയുടെ കല്ലിട്ട പെരുന്നാള്. ഈ പള്ളിയുടെ പിറവിക്കു പിന്നില് ഒരു ഐതീഹ്യം ഉണ്ട്. ഇവിടെ അടുത്തു തന്നെ ഉള്ള പിറവം പള്ളിയില് കുര്ബ്ബാനക്കു പോകുന്നവര് ഒരു വിചിത്ര ആചാരത്തെ നേരിടേണ്ടിയിരുന്നു. അവിടെ കുര്ബ്ബാനക്കായി വാതിലിലൂടെ കയറുന്നവര്, വാതിലിനു കുറുകെ കപ്യാര് പിടിക്കുന്ന കൈയ്യിനു കീഴിലൂടെ കുമ്പിട്ടു വേണമായിറുന്നു അകത്തു പ്രവേശിക്കാന്. ഒരു ദിനം 'മറ്റമ്മേല് മുത്തി' എന്ന ഒരു സ്ത്രീ അവിടെ ചെല്ലുകയും, അവര്ക്കും ഇതേ ദുരിതം നേരിടുകയും ചെയ്തു. കുനിയാതെ അവര്ക്കു പള്ളിക്കകത്തേക്കു കയറാന് കഴിയുമായിരുന്നില്ല. ഒരു വല്യ കുടുംബത്തില് ജീവിച്ചു വന്ന അവര്ക്കു ഇതു ശരിയായി തോന്നിയില്ല. അവര് കുര്ബ്ബാന കൈക്കൊള്ളാതെ തിരിച്ച് സ്വദേശമായ മാമ്മലശ്ശേരിയില് വരികയും അവിടെ ഒരു പ്രദേശം കണ്ടു അവിടെ പള്ളി നിര്മ്മിക്കാനുറക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. പക്ഷെ 'ഇഞ്ചക്കാടിനാല്' നിറഞ്ഞ അവിടം വെട്ടിത്തെളിക്കണമായിരുന്നു. ബുദ്ധിമതിയായ ആ സ്ത്രീ, അവിടുത്തെ നാട്ടുകാരുടെ മുന്നില് വച്ച് കുറെ സ്വര്ണ്ണനാണയങ്ങള് ആ കാട്ടിലേക്കെറിയുകയും, നാട്ടുകാര് ആ നാണയങ്ങള്ക്കായി അവിടം വെട്ടിത്തെളിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെ വൃത്തിയാക്കപ്പെട്ട അവിടെ പള്ളി പണിയുകയും ചെയ്തു എന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം.
Mammalassery Mar-Michael Church
The Mammalassery, Mar Michael Church is 1100 years old church, situated in Ernakulam district, between Piravom and Ramamangalam (India - Kerala). The 'Laid-Stone Day' of this church was on October-12-1159(Kanni,29 - in Malayalam month). There is an interesting story behind the birth of this church. The 'Piravom Church' , one of the nearest church to Mammalassery had a strange way of treatment to those who were visited the church for Holy Qurbana(Holy Offering). The people who want to enter inside the church through the door were blocked by the hand of the person of the church(call 'Kapyaar' in Malayalam[helper of the Priest]) and they have go below the crossed hand. One day a lady called 'Mattammel Muthy' had faced the same problem. She felt this as 'strange' because she is from a rich family. She came back to her native without attending the 'Holy Offering' and found a place to build a church. But the place which she found for the church, was full of bushes (with special plants found in Kerala,call 'Incha'-Inchakkad). The clever lady had an idea. She thrown some gold coins to that area infront the natives. For getting those coins they cleaned that area. Then the church was built in that place, which is now popularized as Mammalassery Mar Michael Church.
